Poker Players Criticize EPT Prague Cash Game Rake Increases
The EPT Prague 2019 tournament structures offer a mix of “freezeout,” “single re-entry,” and “single entry per flight” tournaments with “unlimited re-entries” restricted to qualifiers, satellites, and high roller events.
However, the announced EPT Prague cash game rake increases (compared to previous years) have resulted in criticism from several poker community members who frequent the TwoPlusTwo public boards.
DISCUSS NOW:EPT Raising [Cash Game] Rake on Short Notice (2+2 NVG sub-forum)
“So one week before the event starts and people have already booked their flight and accomodation, the casino raises the rake for cashgames between 30 and up to 70%. For example previously 50/100czk (approx 2/4€) the rake cap was 300czk (12€) Now for a 2/5 game the rake is 20€.”eptfriends
“They also take 2€ out of every flop dealt for ‘staff.’ So the 30-70% rake increase is not enough yet to pay your own staff?”eptfriends
2019 EPT Prague Cash Game Rake (partial screen-grab)
“Wow that rake is out of control.” bicyclekick
“Sounds like the casino is responsible for this, not the EPT.” NooooBingo
“I agree that the low stakes rake change is unfair, announced this late. Also running it twice potentially costs you rake twice?” – “The 2€/hand are totally pointless, they were there last year as well, but with the lower rake structure. Now it’s even higher rake than at the kings, maybe most won’t realize it…”DuFisch
“Tables are going to be full same as before. Although I hate those changes, I’m going to play same number of hours as last year, same as everyone else.” mosquito!
“It is a shame that the ‘Exclusive Interview’ by Jack Stanton here didn’t discuss the impact on poker players of this change.” Josem
“20 euro a pot for 2/5, lol. Why would anyone ever go there? I thought California was bad.” unta

Everything has to come together perfectly between the player side, the software side, finance department and marketing.
Launching a new online casino business is eventrickier. It is a testament to everyone’s hard work and experience that SuperiorCasino was born and an immediate success. If even one of these pieces is behind the other, the outcomecan be devastating. And this undoubtedly has contributed to thelong-lasting stamina of this incredible casino and team.As the operation continued into its second decade in late 2016, the same team that was there atthe beginning looked back over the years, and the ups and downs and marveled at the businessthey created.
2019 EPT Prague Cash Game Rake Increases (Observations)
* All observations belong solely to the author.
As regulatory mandates established by qualified, licensed Responsible Gaming and Game Integrity personnel spread across the globe — and as jurisdictional-based governing bodies seek to efficiently capture regulated gaming revenues, licensed brick and mortar casinos will continue to face growing pressure to increase/stabilize customer spend across all platforms.
Caesars says about 15-20% of its customers are unprofitable and it’s now focusing on this group. It will try to make them profitable for the company or stop comps to those that “live off our offering program.” The company has a $1.9bln yearly comp program. #casinopic.twitter.com/yTVB3nbqmm

DISCUSS NOW:Caesars Claims 15-20% of Customer Base is ‘Unprofitable’ (Vegas Casino Talk)
Land-based casino square gaming footage optimization is likewise a topic that has been covered in jurisdictions such as Pennsylvania — particularly in content published here at Part Time Poker — which explains how “live” casino poker rooms generate only a tiny fraction of revenues compared to their “banking” game counterparts in the Keystone State (blackjack, roulette, casino poker, craps, baccarat, etc).
RELATED:PA Live Poker Room Revenue Numbers Are Cause for Concern (Jan 28, 2018)
The proliferation of industry-driven increase customer spend narratives in regulatory proceedings and public input forums (such as what transpires in official hearings carried out by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board), along with the multitude of scandals that have negatively impacted both live and online poker throughout the years, may be “forcing” casino personnel to focus their efforts more intensely on improving the revenue-based performance of regulated peer-to-peer games.
2019 EPT Prague Cash Game Rake Increases (Conclusion)
In this author’s view, the 2019 EPT Prague cash game rake increases are:
- 100% the responsibility and up to the authority of the venue/event organizer/licensing body
- likely to have a negative “Expected Value” impact on professional poker players, which will (arguably) be partially offset by game composition and structures
RELATED:Should Viability of ‘For-Profit Poker’ Concern Poker Rooms? (Jun 3, 2018)
As a matter of social responsibility tied to affiliate marketing outreach, it is recommended that individuals who have expressed concern with the higher per-hand cash game fees at EPT Prague do not participate in said games if they feel uncomfortable doing so upon arrival at the venue.
Best of luck at the tables!

As most everyone here knows, in April, 2011, the U.S. government shut down the major poker sites that were serving the United States. Poker for many of us has never been the same since Black Friday occurred. In addition, the inability for most U.S. players not to play on the Internet has hurt poker all over the country and perhaps the world. But now, finally, things are beginning to change. more ..

Poker author Ed Miller once said that most people play poker as if they were video poker players. They put their money in and try to make a hand without thinking about all the mathematical constraints of the game. Instead, you should be the house and play poker as if you were an unfair video poker machine. So what’s the difference? more ..
Cognitive Bias in Poker
Robert Samuels January 2020A key to being an effective poker player rests on the ability to think in a logical way, but it turns out that people have a hard time being rational. In order to understand why we rely on irrational thinking, many scientists have started to study what they call “cognitive bias,” and these theories of mental error can tell us a lot about how poker players think and act. more..
